Blackberry, Strawberry and Blackcurrant Smoothie

Blackberry, Strawberry and Blueberry Smoothie

What’s happened to the smoothies? A year ago my twitter feed was jam-packed with luscious green swamp juices – and now…. nothing!

Has everyone moved past the smoothie?

Are there just smoothie bowls now?

Well I thought I’d bring back my own little revival, since I’m craving some sunshine flavours at this still-dark-in-the-mornings time of year. I need a bit of stodge too, since I would be starving by mid-morning if I didn’t get an early fix, so this one’s got a good amount of oats in it to ward off hunger pangs.

It’s a bog-standard, but delicious go-to smoothie, with the right balance of tang, sharpness, sweetness and comfort. Just as good as the one I bought from a Juice bar last week that cost me £5.25. I used a frozen mix (keep these in the freezer they’re SO useful) but you could do the same with fresh fruit, although the texture won’t be as thick.

Hope you enjoy!

Blackberry, Strawberry and Blackcurrant Smoothie
(serves 1)

150g frozen smoothie mix (mine was a mixture of blackberries, strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and bananas)
2 tablespoons porridge oats
2 tablespoons plain low fat yoghurt
splash milk
about 150ml orange juice (add this slowly to get the consistency you like)

Method:

1. Whiz everything up in the blender or food processor, and you’re good to go!

I miss seeing smoothies in my feed too, they always encouraged me to try them out and the colours always boosted my mornings! I must try this recipe out, it sounds so good. I love blackberries so I should love this, and it’s so true too, smoothies are great to ward off those mid-morning hunger pangs, I always feel better when I’ve had a smoothie in the morning. – Tasha

Where did the smoothies go? We’ve revived them with vigour at home. I found a stash of blackberries I’d frozen last summer too, so great. My favourite combo at the mo is banana, cherry, blackberry, almond milk and a cheeky spoonful of peanut butter. Winning.
