A busy, fun, social weekend. I love Bank Holidays – doesn’t everyone? As although I caught up with relatives, enjoyed the outdoors, spent some time at a work event, cooked a lot and went on a night out with friends – I still managed to devote the entirety of a rainy Saturday (ooh I rhyme) watching the whole first season of Mad Men. What a cool programme – how did I miss it the first time round? Loving the hairstyles, the clothes, and the insight into a horrendously male world. I wasn’t a feminist before I watched it – now I’m not so sure. We’re so lucky now in a time of relative equality. Also love Don Draper. V Sexy.
But back to the food. This weekend I’ve eaten a Carluccio’s lasagne (ok); some mojitos at a fancy Manchester bar (perfect); a Macdonald’s (love it); pulled pork in ciabatta (yes yes yes) a hot dog from a van on the beach (excellent in a ‘I remember being 14’ kind of way); champagne (£13 from Asda. Not amazing I concede – but £13 for real champagne?!); home made bread (better, albeit heavier, with 75% rather than 50% wholemeal methinks); carrot, potato and onion soup (warming); porridge with Moroccan raspberries (delicious) and some chilli infused olives from a local farmer’s market. A kaleidoscope of the grunge and the great of the foodie world – judge my social status based on that if you dare!
I also made this:
1/2 cucumber, grated
200g Greek yoghurt
1 garlic clove, crushed in a pestle and mortar, or finely grated
1/2 teapsoon salt
juice of 1 lemon
1. Mix all ingredients – that’s it!
